Pretty much anything — as long as it’s road-legal and insured . Two wheels? Fine. Three? Weird, but fine. Six? Now we’re intrigued. If it rolls, steers, stops, and has papers, it’s probably eligible. The real spirit of Baltic Bangers is about vehicles with personality . That might be an old diesel van with 300,000 km, a misfit hatchback with flames hand-painted on the doors, or something your uncle gave you in exchange for a bottle of schnapps. 4WD helps, but it’s not required. The route is built for adventure, not competition. Gravel roads, potholes, ruts, and mystery mud await. Bring something that’s ready to take a beating — and maybe a few zip ties. Dents, dings, scratches, broken mirrors, and weird creaks are all part of a successful day. If your car still looks the same at the end of the trip, you probably didn’t take enough detours. And if you show up at a police checkpoint in a plaid-painted Peugeot with googly eyes on the headlights — don’t worry. Just smile, be polite, and enjoy the story.

How tough is the drive?

Not extreme — but it’s real backroad stuff. Expect gravel, potholes, occasional mud, and a few “is this still a road?” moments. 2WD is fine if you drive smart. Additionally, although we offer some recommendations, the path from A to B is ultimately up to you. You can take the scenic route, the direct route, or just get lost and see what happens.

Is there a limit on how many can join?

Yes. For the inaugural edition of Baltic Bangers, we’re keeping it intentionally small and scrappy — just five vehicles . That means space is very limited. We want this first trip to feel personal, flexible, and a little chaotic in the best way. Fewer vehicles = more freedom to improvise, more time to get to know each other, and fewer worries about clogging up a Latvian forest track. If you’re thinking about joining — don’t overthink. Apply early , bring your weirdest road-legal vehicle, and let’s see where this goes.

What if my car breaks down?

You’re on your own, Top Gear style. Bring tools, spares, and a positive attitude. Other teams may help, but don’t count on us for a tow truck. This is part of the adventure! If you break down, you can either fix it or find a way to get it back on the road. If you can’t, you’ll have to figure out how to get home. The Baltic countries are developed and safe, but some areas are remote. You may be a few hours from the nearest mechanic — so plan accordingly.

Do I need to book accommodation myself?

Yes. The roadbook suggests guesthouses and camping options, but you’ll need to sort your own bookings.

Can I join solo?

You can, but we strongly recommend going with a co-pilot. It makes the drive easier, safer, and way more fun. Two brains are better for bad navigation decisions.

Is there a limit to the number of riders?

Not officially. We figure this kind of thing mostly regulates itself — most people don’t want to spend six days wedged into the back seat of a Polski Fiat with two spare tires, a camping stove, and someone’s wet socks. That said, yes, there’s always the risk that someone shows up with a 42-seat tour bus full of friends, beer, and chaos. If that happens… we’ll deal with it. Probably by assigning them their own rendezvous spot. In short: bring as many riders as you want, as long as your vehicle is road legal, insured, and not a literal parade float . You’ll still need to register each rider, since we print bracelets and name tags for all participants.

Is this even legal?

Well… it’s not illegal to drive in the Baltics — so that’s a good start. In all seriousness, Baltic Bangers is a minimal-support cruise along public roads. It’s not a race, rally, or organized convoy that requires permits. We’re just a bunch of friendly weirdos road-tripping in questionable vehicles — and that’s 100% legal. Our suggested routes stick to legal, public roads — mostly gravel, sometimes suspiciously narrow, always scenic. There’s no off-roading, no closed sections, and no official timing. The only requirement is that you and your vehicle follow local laws . That means: no speeding, no reckless driving, no nonsense. Drive safe, be respectful, and remember — you’re a guest in someone else’s country (and probably their back yard). Police and customs checks can happen near ferry ports or rural crossings, so keep your paperwork tidy and your vibes immaculate.

Can I bring my dog/kid/parrot?

It’s up to you. Just make sure it’s safe, legal, and that your co-pilot (human or otherwise) is chill with long drives and chaotic detours.

How do we navigate?

The Roadbook includes coordinates and descriptions for all waypoints. You’ll also get a GPX file you can load into apps like Gaia GPS, OsmAnd, or Maps.me.

How much does it cost to join?

The entry fee is NOK 1800 per vehicle — and yes, we mean any road-legal vehicle. Car, van, motorcycle, tractor, three-wheeled post-apocalyptic dune buggy… if it’s insured and roadworthy, it’s welcome. On top of that, there’s a NOK 200 fee per rider who will be traveling with the vehicle. These fees cover your printed and digital Roadbook — your essential guide to the journey, filled with offbeat routes, weird history, coordinates, challenges, and sketchy folklore. It’s part rally logbook, part travel zine, and 100% your new favorite glovebox companion. You’ll also get a custom sticker pack to deck out your car in full Baltic glory — bold, weird, and road trip–ready. And for every registered rider, we include: A nifty Baltic Bangers bracelet — your wrist-worn proof that you belong to a questionable convoy of legends. A personalized nametag — laminated, lanyarded, and beautifully over-engineered. Ideal for making new friends, bluffing through police checkpoints, or getting discounts at sketchy roadside bars (no promises). What other costs should I expect? Accommodation: You book your own stays. We’ll recommend guesthouses away from the tourist traps and include free wild camping options. Or go full glam in a boutique hotel — your trip, your vibe. Fuel: Your biggest cost. You’ll drive ~ 1500 km over 6 days. Most teams can expect to burn through 100–150 liters. Food: You’ll feed yourself, but the Baltics are budget-friendly. Expect NOK 150–250 per person per day if you eat out casually and sample the local fare. Getting to Klaipėda: You’ll need to get to the starting line in Lithuania. Ferries run from Kiel, Trelleborg, Travemünde, and Karlshamn. They’re not cheap, but booking early saves money — and fuel. In short: this isn’t an expensive event, but it’s still a real adventure. Plan your budget, leave room for the unexpected, and remember — the best memories come from the least planned moments.

What's the refund policy?

In short: there are no refunds . Once you’re in, you’re in — we’re counting on your weird little vehicle making the journey. That said, you can freely reassign your spot to someone else. Vehicle entries and rider tickets are transferable, no questions asked. Just a heads-up: if you reassign a rider ticket less than 20 days before the event , the new rider may need to identify as the original name — especially when it comes to nametags. Paperwork chaos is part of the charm.

Question 14

I don't have a car yet — can I still sign up?

Absolutely. You can sign up now and provide your vehicle details later. The license plate can be changed up until the start of the event . We assign each vehicle a unique start number sticker that goes on the front doors . If your vehicle has no doors, or they’re made of canvas, or it’s technically a boat with wheels — just let us know and we’ll improvise something equally ridiculous. If you change vehicles during the event (hey, it happens), contact us ASAP. We’ll issue a new start number sticker — but note that there’s a small fee to cover the new sticker, and possibly the emotional damage.
